New wallpaper pack: Textures of Kyoto

I’m no exception as a Japanese person who loves Kyoto, despite its recent overtourism issues. When considering creating a wallpaper pack in Kyoto, I contemplated what aspects of the city resonate with me most. There are already tons of amazing photos showcasing iconic views, such as Sannen-zaka or Zen temples with autumn leaves, that you've likely seen on social media or in magazines. However, these represent only a small part of Kyoto’s charm.
As a software developer and designer myself, I love seeing timeless beauty, which inspires me deeply and brings a sense of calm. In a world where the internet and technology change and evolve so fast and people seem restless on social media, this timeless quality feels especially precious. I find much of this essence in the intricate details of Kyoto – the textures. Since pixels of cityscape photos, while beautiful, are incapable of expressing these subtleties, I decided to focus on photographing them.
Here are some previews of the photos I captured.
Aged Wooden Walls

Many old Japanese houses are made of wood, and over time, their colors have aged and deepened into darker shades.

In the rust, dullness, and flaking that have adhered over time, one senses a beauty that cannot be easily duplicated.
Mosses

Moss grows everywhere and is very pretty when observed up close. The moss that grows in temples is carefully cared for and especially beautiful.

The tiles at the apex of the roof are unique and interesting because of their various shapes.

Traditional Japanese architecture is less structurally rigid compared to Western architecture, as it is centered around harmony with nature. However, upon closer examination, you can discover a wealth of intricate patterns.
